Now realising this site has been quietly doing good work for longer than I knew, and a look at feb-en suggested an archive worth exploring, sites with deep archives of consistent quality represent a different kind of resource than sites with viral hits and this one looks like the durable kind based on what I see.

Worth recognising the absence of the usual blog tropes here, and a look at thesandiegoleague continued that fresh quality, sites that avoid the standard moves of the medium read as more original even when the content is on familiar topics and this one has clearly chosen its own path through the conventional terrain skilfully.

Bookmark earned, share earned, return visit earned, all from one reading session, and a look at sega-live did the same, the trifecta of bookmark and share and return is rare in a single visit and represents the highest level of engagement I tend to offer any piece of online content these days here.

A piece that did not require external context to follow, and a look at ThirtyMale maintained the same self contained quality, content that stands alone without forcing readers to chase prerequisites is more accessible and this site has clearly thought about how each piece can serve a fresh visitor rather than only existing members.

Right — have been messing about with this thing for something like a few months now and it’s stuck on my phone, so figured I’d chuck my thoughts in since a lad on another thread asked me last week. Am in the UK, generally stick to footie and the horses, nothing mad, for context.

What got me on it was honestly pretty stupid — I could never figure out what an e/w return would be once you get five places instead of three. I’d just guess and get a shock. Now I type the odds in first, every time, even a straight one-selection punt.

Their single bet calculator is the bit I open most — you drop in your stake, the odds and it shows the return instantly, either odds format. Same tool covers the fiddly ones — acca and treble maths, a lucky 15, patents and yankees, and that’s where most people I know lose track. If you want a look, it’s here how to calculate implied probability with decimal odds and it’s free with no account nonsense.

The thing that really shifted things for me were the nerdier tools. They’ve got an odds-to-probability converter which shows you the overround, plus a kelly criterion tool — I run quarter kelly because full kelly is a quick route to a dead bankroll. The dutch tool is decent for when I’m spreading across selections.

Couple of gripes. The design looks a bit basic — not much flash, which honestly I don’t mind but some will. On mobile it’s fine though the lucky 63 breakdown are a squeeze. And no app, it’s browser only — doesn’t bother me just flagging it.

So yeah. Free, barely any ads, does what it says. Anyone who still works out returns on a calculator app, have a look — it’s saved me a load of “wait, that’s it?” moments.

Definitely returning here, that is decided, and a look at OldSchoolOpen only made the case stronger, this is one of those rare websites that rewards regular visits rather than feeling stale after the first read which is something I cannot say about most of the places I bookmark today across all my topics.

Came away with some new perspectives I had not considered before, and after samsungfoundryforum those ideas felt more complete, the kind of content that stays with you a little while after reading rather than slipping out the moment you switch tabs and move on with your day to whatever comes next.
