OK — been on this thing for something like five months now and it’s stuck on my phone, so thought I’d write something up since someone asked me the other day. Am in the UK, generally bet football and racing, a fiver here and there, just so you know where I’m coming from.
How I found it was genuinely pretty stupid — I could never get my head round what an e/w return actually was when the place terms changed. Basically I’d eyeball it and get a shock. Now punch the numbers in before every slip, even a simple single bet.
Their single bet calculator tool is the part I open most — type in the price and your stake and it shows the return instantly, fractional or decimal, doesn’t matter. Same tool covers the bigger stuff — doubles and trebles returns, lucky 15 and lucky 63, yankees, which is where most people I know got it wrong. If you want a look, it lives at bet calculator trixie and there’s no login wall, which I appreciated.
The thing that really changed how I bet is the geekier bits. There’s an odds-to-probability calculator that shows how much the bookie’s taking, plus a kelly tool — I stick to fractional kelly because full kelly is far too aggressive. Dutching calculator gets used a fair bit when I’m splitting a race.
It’s not perfect mind. Its layout looks pretty plain — not much polish, which honestly I don’t mind but some will. On my phone it’s fine but the lucky 63 breakdown are a squeeze. Also there’s nothing on the app store, it’s browser only — doesn’t bother me but you asked.
So yeah. Doesn’t cost anything, no ads shoved in your face, works. Anyone who even now does the maths on paper, give it a go — saved me a fair few dumb bets I’d have regretted.
